More on the Suit of Cups

Posted on Nov 7th, 2008 by VisionSpaRetreat : Soulful+Sustainable VisionSpaRetreat

Ace of Cups - Phoenix Tarot

This suit usually refers to the element Water, which is why I was so happy to find that it completed the reading referred to in the previous blog posting.

It also concerns all aspects of the inner life (dreams, imagination, intuition) - themes that I will be exploring in my next water weblog Diving Deeper: Adventures Inspired by Water .

The lunar and tidal cycles are reflected in the shifting emotions of subjective experience such as deep wells of grief, great heights of ecstasy, immense calm of spirit - all part of the human journey.

It's often symbolized by a cup, like the mysterious Grail chalice, pouring sacred water or fluid. This symbolism reflects bonding and nurturing support, deep soul satisfaction - so much a part of my aquatic therapy practice .

Associations include:

the holy grail
a fountain of love
the cornucopia
the stone cup of the mysteries, containing soma (psychedelic elixir)
communion cup of the Catholic mass
the pomegranate cup of the Egyptian cult of Isis and the old Hebrew mysteries.
blood mysteries, symbol of the ultimate sacrifice

All of which I will be exploring more in my weblogs especially Diving Deeper.  Please do comment with your insights, knowledge, etc. regards any of this.

Also, if anyone has images of this suit or water images in general to share (with proper credit of course) I'd be delighted.

Back to the Ace of Cups, my manifestation card ...

The Ace of Cups often shows a hand holding up an overflowing cup, an endless stream of water, wine, blood, or soma for refreshment and healing. It is an unfailing source of balm for body, heart, and soul. It suggests that you can relax into a safety net of love, support, and communion.

Something beautiful for me to meditate on as I re-vision my dream!
